SSID

SSID stands for Service
Set Identifier and is the network name for a wireless
network or WLAN. All wireless
networks including those hosted by the IT-100
must have an SSID to identify them to other wireless computers and Access Points (APs). An SSID can be
any name or sequence of letters and numbers
up to 32 characters long. Typically, an SSID is broadcast,
revealing the existence of the wireless network to any properly equipped
computers in the area. Only wireless computers using
the same SSID can connect to the AP and join the wireless network.
Some APs can have SSID broadcasts disabled
so that wireless computer must already know the SSID name in order to
connect.
