Serial Port

A Serial Port is a nine-pin physical connector usually located on the back of a computer or similar device. Serial Ports transmit and receive data in single-bit sequence over a cable such as a Null Modem Cable. Serial Ports are used to connect computers to other devices such as routers, switches, cameras, and modems. See the terms Modem, Null Modem Cable, Router, and Switch in this glossary for more information.
