PPP

PPP stands for Point-to-Point Protocol and is a basic method of allowing a computer to connect to the Internet and communicate with another computer over the connection. PPP is a set of rules that was developed to let computers use a modem and dial up connection to transmit and receive data over the Internet. As the name implies, it provides the basis for two computers to talk over a large, public network as if they had a direct "point-to-point" link. The L2TP tunneling protocol is an extension of PPP. See IP, L2TP, and VPN in this Glossary for more information.
