IPSec IPSec stands for IP Security and is a method used to encrypt network traffic at the IP protocol level. IPSec provides security in two ways. The Authentication Header (AH) provides for the authentication of the data transmitted so the recipient can be assured that the information was not altered in transit. Encapsulating Security Payload (ESP) provides for both authentication and encryption of the information sent. The IT-100 uses IPSec in combination with L2TP to send data securely over a VPN tunnel. See IP, L2TP, and VPN in this Glossary for more information.
