FTP

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol and is both a set of rules and a method for transferring files across networks including the Internet. The FTP server on the IT-100 allows you to upload and download files from the device. FTP is commonly used to upload webpage information to a website hosted on the IT-100 but you can use it for any type of file transfer. You can create an anonymous connection type for FTP on the IT-100. This would allow anyone to connect to your device over the Internet using FTP with the username of anonymous and the password of any email address. Anonymous FTP users can only access the public folder on the IT-100 and do not have access to any other part of the device's file structure. You can also create a secure FTP logon that only authorized users on the device can use. These users would have greater access to the IT-100's file structure including the www folder which is where website data is stored. While you can connect to an FTP server using the command line interface (CLI), it is easier to use FTP client software. An FTP client is a type of software that you can install on a computer and use to do FTP file transfers with a server such as the IT-100. The FTP client uses a graphical user interface (GUI) and functions similarly to Windows Explorer. You can purchase such software from your local computer store or use an Internet search engine to locate free downloads of such software.
