DSL DSL stands for Digital Subscriber Line and is a generic term for a group of "always-on", digital high-speed Internet connections. DSL is usually offered by the telephone company (telco) and is a service provided to both home and business users for Internet connectivity. DSL service is limited to customers who are located within 17500 feet of the telco central office. The connection enters the customer's premises over a standard phone line and then connects to a DSL "modem" which in turn, allows one or more customer computers to attach to the DSL device and link to the Internet. Connection speeds are variable depending on the type of service the customer orders.
