Boot

BOOT describes the process that occurs when you first start a computer. When a computer boots, all of the essential software loads that enables hardware to be initialized and tested and permits the Operating System to load. The term is short for "bootstrap" which is an archaic reference to the strap attached to a boot that assisted the wearer in pulling the boot on.
