Access Control List An Access Control List (ACL) is a method of computer and network security that permits different individuals in the system to access resources based on the permissions they have to those resources. For instance, the ACL for a Microsoft Word document can be set to allow certain parties such as the creator full control over the document while other groups would have read only permissions and not be able to modify the document. On the IT-100, ACLs are configured for different types of users so that an End User account has access to different services and functions on the device than the Manager User. ACLs are also used in Firewall configurations to permit or deny certain types of network traffic in or out of the network. You can configure similar lists for the IT-100's Proxy server as well. For more information, see the terms Firewall and Proxy in this Glossary.
