Q. Is File Sharing supported on the IT-100?

A. The IT-100 allows Windows users to access files on the IT-100 using My Network Places or Network Neighborhood for older Windows systems. The Domain Administrator must give a user permissions to access File Sharing. File Sharing for Macs is also supported.

Q. What type of folder or file structure is available to users for File Sharing?

A. The public folder is created on the IT-100 by default and when enabled by the manager user, all users who have access to the device can upload, download and read files from this folder. Also, each user on the IT-100 has a home folder that only they can access. The manager user can create additional custom shared folders, designate who can access the custom shares and whether or not they can modify files in those folders or only read them.

Q. How can I connect to the Public Folder on the IT-100?

A.You can best connect to the Public Folder using the IP address of the IT-100. Click Start, Run, and in the Run window, type \\10.9.8.7 which is the default address of the IT-100, then click Ok. You will be prompted to enter your user name and password. Click Ok and you should have access to the Public Folder. The IT-100 does not support WINS so it is more reliable to use the IP address of the server rather than the server name.

Q. What Windows operating system does the IT-100 support for File Sharing?

A. The IT-100 supports File Sharing for all Windows operating systems from Windows 9x to Windows XP. Connecting to a file share using Windows 95 and Windows 98 can be less reliable than later Windows operating systems. With Windows 9x systems, you must make sure you are logged onto the Windows 9x machine as the user who has rights to the share. This is important because it is possible to log onto a Windows 9x machine without having to authenticate with a username and password.

Q. Why can't I access my file share using username@domainname.com?

A. Starting with version 3.30 of the IT-100, it is no longer necessary to access your file share using both your username and your domain name. You only need to use your user name and use the correct password. Your user name must be no longer than 19 characters long.

Q. Does the IT-100 support File Sharing while operating as a node on the network?

A. Yes, the IT-100 supports File Sharing as both the primary server and a network node however, you can only use File Sharing via the LAN ports on the device. File Sharing is disabled on the WAN port.
