Domain FAQs
Learn more about your IT IN A BOX® from these Questions and Answers. Domain Questions
Is there a way to make sure a user receives all of their emails when they are addressed to several different user email addresses? A. Yes. You can create additional names for the user's email address in the Alias section when you create an email account for the user. For example, you may have a user with an email address of bob@domain.com. He may be more commonly known as Robert to many people who send him email. You can add an alias for Robert so that eamils addressed to both bob@domain.com and Robert@domain.com will be delivered to him. Q. Do all users have the ability to upload website files via FTP to any domain hosted on the IT-100? A. No. Users on the IT-100 only have access to their home directory, other shared folders they have permission to access and the public directory if it is enabled. Only a user with Domain Administrator or Manager User rights can upload FTP website files to the domain. Q. Do all users have access to all the features offered on the IT-100? A. No. Only the Manager user has access for all features in the domains hosted on the IT-100. Domain Administrators have access to features available to their domains and can enable or disable these features selectively. Specific users can be allowed access to any individual feature or combination of features for their domain by the Domain Administrator. Q. How many Domains can I host on the IT-100? A. You are limited by the size of the hard drive on the IT-100 as well as the size of your domains. Currently, the IT-100 is available with 20 GB or 60 GB hard drives. You can host fewer domains on the server if they use more hard drive space and resources or you can host more domains which use less space and resources. For example, it is possible to host perhaps 5 domains on the IT-100 if they are very resource intensive and receive large amounts of web and email traffic but it could host maybe 20 domains that receive very little traffic. Q. How does a domain on the IT-100 compare with Windows Active Directory Domains? A. A domain on an IT-100 is not the same as an Active Directory domain on a Windows Domain Controller. A domain on the IT-100 allows the IT-100 to host websites and provide DNS, FTP, and Email services. If you connect an IT-100 to a network with Windows Domain Controllers, Active Directory will not be able to see or include the IT-100 as a network resource in its database. You can still connect an IT-100 as a network node in an Active Directory network but for the Windows computers on that network to access Active Directory, each Windows computer will need to use a Windows Domain Controller for Primary DNS and WINS services. The IT-100 can still be used as a secondary DNS server. |
