DHCP Questions

    What is DHCP?
    What is a DHCP Pool?

Q. What is DHCP?

A. DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. You can set up DHCP on your IT-100 to automatically assign various network settings to computers on your Local Area Network (LAN). These settings include the IP address and subnet mask for each computer and the IP addresses of the network's DNS server and Default Gateway. You can configure DHCP on your LAN, Wireless LAN, and WAN interfaces.

Q. What is a DHCP Pool?

A. DHCP Pool is a range of IP addresses on your network that you have reserved to be handed out to all of the computers on your network. You can create a pool of any number of addresses, limited only by the size of your network's subnet. You can only assign IP addresses to the pool if those addresses are not going to be used for any other purpose such as those statically assigned to servers, printers and other nodes requiring addresses that never change. Every time a computer logs onto the network, it will receive the next available IP address from the DHCP Pool.
