How To Connect to the IT-100 with FTP

One you enable FTP on the IT-100, you can use any number of FTP Client software to connect to the IT-100 and upload and download files to and from the device. You can consult your preferred computer software vendor for which type of FTP client software would be right for you or do a search on the Internet for free FTP client software. In the case of the latter, you will need to download and install the FTP client software onto your computer. Once you have the software installed on your computer, you must configure it to connect to your IT-100 over the Internet. The example presented below is based on one type of FTP client software and the client you use may operate differently. While every effort was made to present this information as accurately as possible, we can only make authoritative statements regarding the operation of the IT-100.

 

  1. Open the FTP client software on your computer

  2. Use the browse function in your FTP client to find the folder and files you want to upload to the IT-100 using FTP.

  3. Launch the software's New FTP Site Wizard

  • Note: the names of the features used here may be different in the FTP client you are using

  1. Type a name for the connection

  2. Type the IP Address of the IT-100's WAN interface where it ask for the server name

  • Note: The port number for this connection should be set to 21 by default. Do not change this setting

  1. In the User Name field, type the name of a user that has been given FTP privileges on the IT-100

  2. Type the password for this user in the Password field

  • Note: you will probably see a check box that will allow Anonymous logons. You can decide if you want to configure this option or not

  1. Complete the wizard and click FINISH

  2. Double-click the connection name to open it

  • You should see a number of text transactions scroll by in the connection window indicating the negotiation between your FTP client software and the FTP server on the IT-100. When it is completed, you will be connected to the FTP server and will see a pane on one side of the window showing the selected files on your computer and another pane in the window showing the shared files on the IT-100

  1. Select a file on your computer to upload to the server. There should be an arrow pointing from your files to the shared folder on the IT-100. When you click the arrow, the selected file will be transferred over the Internet

  • Note: You can select more than one file to transfer and there will also be an arrow pointing from the IT-100's shares to your selected folder letting you download files from the IT-100 to your computer.

  • Note: The FTP client software should let you browse the file systems of both your computer and the IT-100. If your permissions on the IT-100 are limited, you will be restricted as far as which files and folders you can access. The manager account will be able to browse the folders of all the domains created on the device.

  1. When you are done, break the connection. In the FTP client software on your computer, you can usually Go to File -> Disconnect. You will probably be asked a confirmation question. Click OK or Yes. The connection will be terminated.
