How to Access IT-100 File Shares with Mac OS X

Although most of the documentation regarding the functions and services on the IT-100 is oriented to PCs running a Windows operating system, the IT-100 supports other client operating systems including the Mac OS X. Mac users can connect to and access the same services on the IT-100 as PC users. This includes the ability to access shared files and folders on the IT-100 over the LAN. This is done in a different way on a Mac than on a PC but the steps are just as easy. Here's how you get started:

  1. Sitting at a Mac OS X, left-click on any empty space on the desktop. You will notice in the toolbar at the upper-right, the first menu item is now Finder

  2. Click Go

  3. Click Connect to Server

  • The Connect to Server box appears

  1. In the Server Address field, type smb://10.9.8.7

  • NOTE: This tutorial assumes that you are using the default IP Address of the LAN Port on the IT-100. If you have changed that address, you must use whatever address that is now assigned to that port

  1. Click Connect

  2. Click the Share drop down menu

  3. Click the desired share to select it

  4. Click Ok

  • The Authentication box appears

  • NOTE: The name you type in the Workgroup/Domain field will not affect your connection to the share

  1. Type the username and password of someone who has access to the desired share on the IT-100

  2. Click Ok

  • The share opens

  • NOTE: The share may appear as an icon on the desktop of the Mac instead of opening in a box. In this case, to open the share, double-click the icon for that share
