How To Configure a Domain Without the IT-100 Providing DNS Services

You can host numerous domains
on the IT-100 and provide website, email, and a variety of other services
for each domain. While creating a domain involves configuring numerous
services on the IT-100. The Add a Domain
Wizard walks you through the steps in a straightforward and easy-to-follow
manner. Although the IT-100 usually provides
primary or secondary DNS services to the network, you can also
use another server to provide
DNS and not involve the IT-100 in the domain name resolution process at
all. To create a domain without configuring the IT-100 to provide DNS:
Go to CoreVista
Web
Click Domains
on the left-hand sidebar menu
Click ADD
in the Domains box
Type your domain
name in the Domain Name field
An example
of the way you need to word the domain name is domain.com
or emergecore.com
Note: if
you are going to use this domain to host a public
website, a public FTP server
or a public email server, you
must register your domain name with an ICANN
accredited registrar
Click ADD
Click NEXT
You are provided with four
choices as far as how to provide
DNS services for your new domain
Note:
to see the other choices for providing
DNS services for a domain, go to the HOW
TOs: Domains section of the EmergeCore
support page
If you already have sufficient DNS servers providing
name resolution for your network, click the
I already have enough DNS servers for this domain, and I do not want this
IT-100 to serve either primary or secondary DNS radio button
Click NEXT
The Confirm:
No DNS Services for your domain page will appear
Note:
You must configure another DNS
server to provide name resolution for your domain. Until that is accomplished,
your domain, including any email,
FTP, or web
services, will not be able to be reached from other networks including
the Internet
Click FINISH
You are taken to the Domains
page for your new domain. There are no users in the User
Summary box because they have not yet been created. See the HOW TOs: User section for information
about how to create users
Note:
Since the IT-100 will not be handling
DNS for your domain, you must configure
your primary and secondary DNS servers
with the information regarding which server(s)
(regardless if it is the IT-100 or not) will be providing email
services, web services,
and FTP services. Your ISP will
most likely be handling DNS services in this scenario, unless the primary
and secondary DNS servers are located on your local network at your office.
See How To Configure a Domain with
the IT-100 Providing DNS Services for more information
IMPORTANT:
The proper DNS entries on the IT-100 must be entered into the DNS servers
of your ISP if you are hosting a domain on the IT-100 and your ISP is
handling DNS. These entries are:
ftp.domain.com
mail.domain.com
webmail.domain.com
