How To Configure a Domain with the IT-100 Providing DNS Services

You can host numerous domains on the IT-100 and provide website, email, and a variety of other services for each domain. While creating a domain involves configuring numerous services on the IT-100. The Add a Domain Wizard walks you through the steps in a straightforward and easy-to-follow manner. To create a new domain on the IT-100:

 

  1. Go to CoreVista Web

  2. Click Domains on the left-hand sidebar menu

  • The main Domains page opens

  • Note: any domains already created on the IT-100 will appear in separate folders under the Domains folder in the menu

  1. Click ADD in the Domains box

  • The Add a Domain Wizard launches

  1. Type your domain name in the Domain Name field

  • An example of the way you need to word the domain name is domain.com or emergecore.com

  • Note: if you are going to use this domain to host a public website, a public FTP server or a public email server, you must register your domain name with an ICANN accredited registrar

  1. Click ADD

  • The DNS Wizard for your new domain launches

  1. Click NEXT

  • You are provided with four choices as far as how to provide DNS services for your new domain

  • Note: to see the other choices for providing DNS services for a domain, go to the  HOW TOs: Domains section of the EmergeCore support page

  1. To use the IT-100 as your primary DNS server (recommended), click the I would like to use the IT-100 to serve DNS for domain.com radio button where "domain.com" is actually the name of your domain

  2. Click NEXT

  • The Mail Services for your domain box appears

  • Note: you can choose to have the IT-100 act as your mail server (recommended) or to use a separate mail server on your network

  1. To use the IT-100 as your mail server, click the Mail for this domain should be delivered to the IT-100 radio button

  • or

  1. To use another server on the network as a mail server, click the Mail for this domain should be delivered to the following server radio button and then type the name of the mail server in the Server Name field

  • Note: the format for a mail server name is typically something like mail.domain.com

  • Note: if you chose a server other than the IT-100 as a mail server, you will see a page confirming your decision. If the name is correct, click NEXT

  • The Web Services for your domain page appears

  1. To use the IT-100 to host your web site for this domain (recommended), click the Web pages for this domain should be served by this IT-100 radio button

  • or

  1. To use another server on the network as your web server, click the Web pages for this domain should be served by the following server radio button. Then either type the IP address of that server in the IP Address fields (such as 10.9.8.7) or type the server's domain name in the Server Name field (such as www.emergecore.com)

  2. Click NEXT

  • Note: if you chose a server other than the IT-100 as a web server, you will see a page asking if you want to have your domain name as an alias for the domain name of the server or if you want your domain name to directly point to the IP address of the web server. Click the appropriate radio button and click NEXT

  • The FTP Services for your domain page appears

  1. To use the IT-100 as your FTP server for this domain (recommended), click the ftp.domain.com should point to this IT-100 radio button where "domain.com" is your domain name

  • or

  1. To use another server on the network as your FTP server, click the ftp.domain.com should point to the following server radio button where "domain.com" is your domain name. Then either type the IP Address of that server in the IP address fields (such as 10.9.8.7) or type the server's domain name in the Server Name field (such as ftp.emergecore.com)

  2. Click NEXT

  • Note: if you chose a server other than the IT-100 as a web server,  you will see a page asking if you want to have your domain name as an alias for the domain name of the server or if you want your domain name to directly point to the IP address of the FTP server. Click the appropriate radio button and click NEXT

  • The DNS Setup FINISH page appears

  1. Click FINISH

  • You are taken to the Domains page for your new domain. The User Summary box is empty since no users have been configured for this domain. See HOW TO: User section to learn how to create new users for this domain

  • Note: in the left-hand sidebar menu under the Domains folder, you will see a new folder for your newly created domain. Under the new domain folder, you see pages for DNS, FTP Stats, Web Builder, and Web Stats
